SPUHR is a manufacturer of high-quality mounts with headquarters in Sweden. The company was founded in 2007. Soon, their mounts became popular among tactical shooters because of the robustness, durability, and reliability. Each individual monoblock mount of theirs is available in plenty of configurations (different height, inclination, ring diameter etc.), allowing the buyer to make a choice based on personal needs.
With most mounts made by other manufacturers, the screws that hold the two pieces of the ring together are positioned on the sides, horizontally. When such rings are mounted on the riflescope, they sometimes cover the windage turret and the parallax turret markings. Håkan Spuhr, the founder of the company, introduced a completely new concept – he devised a mount where two pieces of the ring are attached to one another diagonally, allowing the shooter to see the markings on the windage and parallax adjustment turrets without problems. Up to now, they’ve only had the tactical market covered; at IWA 2019, they launched their first-ever hunting mounts.
About the new Hunting series
The new hunting series mounts made by SPUHR are incredibly elegant. The surfaces are precisely machined, without sharp edges. Right now (2019), these are probably one of the most aesthetically appealing hunting mounts on the market. They’ve used the same design as with the tactical ring mounts – the two pieces of each individual ring are attached diagonally. On the surface of the rings, ‘SPUHR’ logo is engraved. Every mount is made from high-quality 7075 T651 aluminium to achieve maximum strength and durability.
The ring mounts that were introduced are available in different versions. You can either choose ones that have SPUHR interface on both rings, ones that have SPUHR interface on one ring only, or ones without SPUHR interface. The interface allows the user to attach various accessories to the mount. If any of the accessories are removed and put back on, there is no need to re-zero. If you do not plan on using any accessories on the mount, the one without the interfaces is the best choice because it is the most elegant.
One-piece hunting mounts
The buyer can pick between standard and cantilever monoblock mounts. For now, just the fixed versions are available. Several heights are at one’s disposal, and these one-piece mounts can be purchased in 30 and 34mm versions. Spuhr will be upgrading their offer in the future, but for now, these mounts are available for the Picatinny platform and for the 16.5mm dovetail found on rifles such as Sako TRG, Tikka T3, and Tikka T3x.
Blaser and Sako rings
Spuhr also makes Blaser and Sako rings using the same design as for the one-piece hunting mounts. Blaser rings are made for the Blaser Saddle mount, while Sako rings will fit on a Sako OptiLock base. These are made for most popular diameters of the riflescope tube: 25.4, 30, 34, 35 and 36 mm.
Spuhr makes these from quality 7075 T651 aluminium. They are currently available for the most popular rifles, including Remington 700, Winchester 70, and Mauser 96. The buyer can pick from 0 and 20 MOA inclination models depending on the type of use. With time, the offer will be expanded.
At IWA 2019, we were told by Spuhr that their offer of hunting mounts will expand with time. They plan on launching Picatinny rings and direct mounts in Autumn 2019.
The new ring mounts, even the one-piece ones, will be priced under 200 €, which is a superb price for such a quality mount. Based on what we’ve seen at IWA 2019, we are sure that Spuhr’s breakthrough into the hunting mounts’ market will be a success. Hunters are usually after a combination of elegance and durability when it comes to purchasing a mount – with Spuhr’s new hunting series, one should look no further.
