Schmidt&Bender‘s brand new product is the PM II ShortDot Dual CC 1-8×24. In the continuation of this article, we will explain what Dual CC actually stands for. This is a long-awaited product in the S&B riflescope series. We have already heard rumors about this riflescope years ago but now it’s for real. The older version of this riflescope as we already know was designed with the reticle and dot both placed in the second focal plane. The new Dual CC, however, has the dot placed in the second focal plane, while the reticle is in the first. This means that when magnification is increased, the size of the dot stays the same but the size of the reticle enlarges. This is an awesome concept by S&B, which allows the shooter to use a wide-angle riflescope as a reflex sight and as a classic riflescope. At the same time, CC or Close Combat mode is perfect for close quarters. In this mode, the scope has true 1x magnification with fixed parallax at 7 m. As soon as you increase the magnification setting above the CC mode, the parallax is fixed at 100 m.
General characteristics of this riflescope are mostly the same as with the previous models but as befits the S&B standard there are some improvements which need explanation. The illumination of the reticle features 8 increments, including the 3 which are night vision compatible. You can change the illumination of the reticle which is in the first focal plane and the illumination of the dot which is in the second focal plane by rotating the illumination turret. When turning the turret in one direction you increase the illumination of the reticle and when turning it in the other direction you increase the illumination of the central dot. The user can choose whether to have illuminated reticle or central dot at any of the magnification power.
So far this concept was implemented only in S&B PM II ShortDot riflescope series. At the moment, we are not positive that S&B will use this concept with any of their other riflescopes, nonetheless, this is a very original attempt from S&B to add something new to the otherwise wide field of sports optics. This riflescope is an evolution of the already known technologies from S&B but we are confident this is the right step for the future of optics.
