Pulsar Axion 2 XG35 LRF Thermal Imaging Monocular

The New Pulsar Axion 2 XG35 LRF

Monoculars are becoming increasingly popular, and if you are the sort of person who enjoys testing out new sports optics – and we know you are because you have found your way here – you are probably excited to find out which new device to expect at your doorstep. Axion 2 XG35 LRF thermal imaging monocular cannot yet come to your doorstep (until May 2022), but it has come to IWA & Outdoorclassics 2022. The new monocular from Pulsar packs various features without costing a small fortune – let us take a look at said features.

Physical Properties

The surface differs a bit in comparison to the previous Axion models, but it is still made from magnesium that protects the internal components from shocks, drops, moisture, heat, and cold. The LRF version is equipped with an additional button used to measure distance, which was the right call made by Pulsar, as well as a good upgrade. The fit and finish remain by far the best in the industry. When it comes to the build quality, Pulsar is still ahead of the curve.

Axion 2 XG35 LRF takes a lot of work out of hunting. It has a space-saving and pocket-sized design and weighs 300 grams. The model without the LRF however, is even more lightweight and more affordable. The device is easy to hold and operate by right-handed and left-handed users due to the symmetrical design and button arrangement on the upper panel. The monocular is fully waterproof (IPX7) and designed for constant and frequent use.

Optical Properties

This extension of the Axion line has a long-distance laser rangefinder (up to 1000 m) and a 1750 m detection range. A great update is also the optics’ sensor, which has a 640x480 resolution with a 12µm pixel pitch. The sensor is similar to the XP models in the Helion series with a smaller lens (32 mm) and an aperture of 1, which results in top-notch image quality. The monocular features variable magnification from 2.5x to 20x – this means it has a digital zoom of 8 times – which provides improved focus and better overall target recognition.

Share Your Experiences

This new Axion XG35 ticks every box. According to Pulsar, you will now be able to record videos and take photos on the LRF model with the built-in photo and video recorder, which is not an option with its predecessor, the XQ38 LRF. The built-in WiFi connects the Axion 2 XG35 to Android and iOS smartphones via the Stream Vision 2 mobile application, which allows the user to remotely operate the device, update the firmware and share the previously mentioned thousands of photos and hours of recordings.

Conclusion

This European-based optics company specializes in perfecting sports optics, and it has gone to town on the new monocular. The battery life is improved immensely (up to 7 hours), especially because the APS5 batteries need to power the 640x480 sensor. You will have to wait until May 2022 to get your hands on this Axion, for roughly 2.900 €. The image it offers is extremely bright, and the future of the XG35 LRF seems to be bright as well.
