New Competitor Enters the Market
Night Pearl SEER 35 PRO is a brand new device in a highly competitive market of thermal imagers. It’s a welcome addition to the SEER series of clip-ons that are going toe to toe with the biggest names in the business.
A quick look at Night Pearl’s past ventures shows strategic launches of models that target only the most established devices in its price class. Since the premiere of the SEER series in 2018, there have been many successful expansions of the line-up.
While SEER 50 Plus II was clearly designed to pair up against Pulsar’s Krypton, the lighter and recoil-resistant 35 PRO seeks to find its match in Proton. It’s an ambitious undertaking for sure, but Night Pearl has some aces up their sleeve.
Fast Changes on the Go
Built to last, the rugged design still ensures comfortable viewing through a 35-millimeter objective lens. The eyepiece and objective bell are protected with flip-up caps made of hard plastic. We find that hard lens caps are users’ preferred option to soft rubber covers. Those are maddeningly easy to lose mid-hunt. If you’re lucky enough to still have the original piece, it’s now probably already torn to smithereens with use.
With only about 495 grams to its name, Night Pearl SEER 35 PRO is a compact and durable device, fit for any hunter on the go. It can withstand the recoil of calibers up to .50 BMG. Many users single out the super-ergonomic joystick knob as the winning physical feature. It’s easy to manipulate even with gloves on, and the quick menu lets you change settings in a blink of an eye.
It allows for a fast connection to the day optics with the help of an adapter that has to be purchased separately, for now.
Night Pearl SEER 35 PRO is powered by 2 CR123 batteries. Most manufacturers of thermal and night vision optics have long moved on to integrated power sources. So, it’s a bit surprising to see Night Pearl hasn’t improved in this aspect yet. What is more, SEER 35 PRO burns through the CR123 batteries after about 5 hours of continuous use. Generic batteries are easy to replace in a pinch but are a burden to the environment. Invest in rechargeable ones and save yourself time and money.
But let’s leave minor grievances aside and move to the good stuff. The meat and potatoes of Night Pearl SEER 35 PRO.
Engineered around the most advanced 17μm sensor, Night Pearl SEER 35 PRO means business. Thanks to the impressive 384×288 pixel resolution, you won’t miss out on any detail. That’s the main attraction here. Pair these sensor capabilities with 1024×768 OLED screen resolution and you have a winner. Night Pearl promises an incredibly clear image, no matter what difficulties hunters encounter in the field.
While on the subject of the display properties, it’s worth mentioning that the refresh rate is 50Hz. That’s the best that the civil market can offer right now and lets you track everything in smooth movement. Users can switch between 10 color modes for optimal image contrast and fast target acquisition, depending on the conditions. There’s also the handy picture-in-picture screen format (PiP).
Set at 1x default magnification power, the digital enhancement of the image only goes up to 2x and 4x max.
Hunters will be pleased to hear that Night Pearl decided on an adjustable focus (in contrast to the previously mentioned Proton with a fixed one). The fast-focusing ring lets you keep the image in sharp focus beyond 100m, even at larger distances and as quickly as possible so that you don’t miss a good shot.
