Introduction
At IWA 2018, we have seen quite a few new products from MAK. The next one in the line is the MAKdot S red dot sight – small tube sight (closed). This model is bigger and bulkier than the MAKdot reflex sight. The red dot is of a closed type and has a differently sized window than the smaller version. Its however both compact and lightweight despite the overall size of the sight. At the moment, only the 2 MOA dot size configuration is available but it’s possible that MAK will add a new configuration of the dot size to the existing one. As is the case with MAKdot, this model will also include an original MAK QR (quick removable) mount. For this particular reason, the competitors will have a hard time competing with this product since, with most manufacturers, a buyer has to purchase the mount separately. We are very positive this will be MAK’s huge advantage in terms of price benefits.
Features
Quality of the optic is undoubted of high end. The product is designed with a motion sensor, which makes sure that the illumination turns off after 4 hours if there is no activity. The user has 17 digitally controlled intensity settings for illumination adjustment at his disposal. The dot’s housing is made from 6063 durable mono-block aluminum which is able to withstand damage from falls, hits, recoil, etc. When looking through the glass, we can quickly deduce that the image has no distortion and is also very clear, bright and sharp. The intensity levels are undoubtedly compatible with NV however, the company doesn’t note this information.
Conclusion
We at Optics Trade are very confident about this product. The price of MAKdot S will be very favorable because we simply have to take into account that this product comes with an original MAK mount. We know that most manufacturers don’t include the mount with the red dot device or they do but the quality of the mount is much lower than that of MAK. Regarding the actual price so far, we can only make assumptions. More will be known when we get this device into our shop and put it to a test.
