Armasight was acquired by Flir in 2017. The two once separate companies now stand united as one. The company is well known worldwide as one of the biggest manufacturers of thermal and night vision optics for law enforcement and civil market. One of their new products is the Flir Breach PTQ136 thermal imaging monocular, whose initial field of use is the law enforcement. However, this product will be sold on the civil market as well.
This is one of the smallest and most compact thermal monoculars in the market. Flir Breach is designed to be used hands-free. The device can be used as a standard monocular for observation but it also has an option to be mounted on the helmet. We are confident that this product will prove extremely popular with law enforcement users due to the awesome mounting flexibility, compactness and concealed design. PTQ136 has multiple mini-rail mounting points which add to the versatility of use. With a quick glance at the monocular, we can see that the device can be concealed and stored in a pocket with almost no effort. Another positive factor of this device which is worth mentioning is the weight. With only 210g the user can quickly forget he is actually equipped with a thermal imaging monocular.
Flir Breach PTQ136 offers high definition image clarity and brightness which results in great detection of the observing object in day or night-time. This optics is very compact. It measures 139 mm in length and 70 mm in height. It has 7 image palettes. These are White Hot, Black Hot, Rainbow HC, Ironbow, Sepia, Artic, Outdoor Alert. This product has 1x optical magnification and 1-4x digital zoom, which means you can set the image closer to the observing object. In the internal storage, the user can store up to 2.5 hours of videos and more than 1000 pictures. Flir thermal monocular is designed with 320×256 Vox Microbolometer detector type which has 60 Hz of refresh rate and is powered by a 12-micron high-performance Boson thermal core which is the smallest pixel size on the market. Another very interesting feature is the digital compass and inclinometer which offers good orientation on the object and awareness. 600 – 700 m is the optimal detection range for a human. Without a doubt, this small and compact device features the best resolution amongst all thermal devices on the market at the moment.
There are only a few devices like this on the market at the moment which are so small, concealed and compact. You can easily carry this thermal monocular in a pocket or simply in a hand. It is also very impressive that such a small and compact device can „produce“ so much quality and sharpness of the image. Flir offers 10 years of warranty for this product which is made in the USA. We, at Optics Trade, are looking forward to seeing how much of a success this product will hit on the market but based on all the features which device has to offer we believe the odds are very favorable for Flir Breach PTQ136. The product will be priced at around 3000€.
