Athlon Ares ETR 1-10×24 UHD

Introduction

Athlon is a promising company that grows by the year. At the end of 2020, they introduced a handful of new products, plenty of which are worth looking into. In this short article, we will cover the features of Ares ETR 1–10×24 UHD, a new tactical, wide-angle riflescope with a tempting 10x zoom factor.

A versatile riflescope with plenty of features

The 10x zoom factor makes this riflescope extremely versatile. At 1x magnification, one can quickly acquire targets by looking through the scope with both eyes open. At higher magnification, shots up to 400 m (or even longer) can be utilized with great precision.

The ATMR reticle is available in both MOA and MIL variants. Thanks to the FFP-configuration of the reticle, one can benefit its subtensions at all magnifications. The illumination can be set to various levels of intensity – there is an off-switch between each level so that the illumination wheel does not have to be turned all the way each time you turn it off.

The scope is equipped with a 34mm tube. The turrets are uncapped and multi-turn. There are 29 MILs (100 MOA) of elevation adjustment. One click equals 0.1 MIL (1/4 MOA), and the tracking works great thanks to the high precision erector system. The body is made of a one-piece quality aircraft grade aluminium. The construction can withstand strong recoil; it will endure 1000G of recoil for 1000 times. At 544 grams, the riflescope is incredibly lightweight for a wide-angle tactical riflescope with a tube diameter of 34 mm. It is also shorter than most of the competition at 25.4 centimetres of length. The elevation turret is equipped with the Zero Stop feature, which further suggests that it is designed for the combination of short- and long-distance shots. You can lock the elevation turret in place.

Athlon uses quality glass in this riflescope which they refer to as UHD. The image seen through the scope is sharp edge to edge and with minimal chromatic aberration. The lenses are fully-multicoated to provide a high light transmission rate and reduce the internal reflections. They even coat the exterior of the lenses with the coating they call XPL – it prevents water and dirt from accumulating there and prevents the surface from minor scratches. The interior is purged with Argon to prevent fogging at low temperatures.

Conclusion

Ares ETR 1–10×24 UHD packs plenty of advanced features for the price, and not many riflescopes at this price point can match it in terms of optical quality and zoom factor.
