Athlon Cronus Tactical 7-42×60 ED spotting scope (Shot Show 2019)

Athlon is one of the fastest growing companies which produces optics for all kind of sports. On Shot Show 2019, I visited their booth to look out for new products. The company presented the new Athlon Cronus Tactical spotting scope with a variable magnification – 7-42×60.

This new spotting scope has a built-in reticle positioned in the first focal plane. The reticle is called TSSR FFP MIL, and as the name says, it is a true MIL reticle. This means the spacing of the lines is in millimeters/centimeters on the target. Because the reticle is in the first focal plane, the line spacings stay the same corresponding to the target if the user changes magnification.

Thanks to the MIL reticle, the user can calculate the distance to the target without any additional equipment. The spotter can also call for shot corrections directly in MIL, so the shooter can quickly change the setting on the rifle scope and make the second shot. In the TSSR FFP MIL reticle, there are additional lines for quick range estimation of human-sized targets. Because the reticle is positioned in the first focal plane, all this can be done on all magnifications.

On the upper side of the spotting scope a high-riser mount can be mounted for additional equipment like a red dot sight for faster aiming, a laser rangefinder and much more.

On the bottom is a standard tripod thread for fast and secure mounting on a tripod. The spotting scope weighs 46.6 oz (1321 grams) and is 13,9 inches (353 millimeters) long. The image can be focused from 10 yards (9 meters) to infinity, and the eye relief is 1.18 inch (30 millimeters) long.
